On Tuesday, 20 October, over 200 people tuned in for our first-ever virtual Acronis Cyber Foundation Charity Event during the annual Acronis Global Cyber Summit and sponsored by cloud provider BusyMouse.
It was a fantastic occasion, which raised over USD30,000! Here are a few of our highlights from the event.
Amazing special guest and host
The evening was hosted by the brilliant Zan Aufderheide, who welcomed attendees as they logged on at 12pm EDT and then chaperoned them through the afternoon’s fantastic lineup – including a special interview with Pedro Martinez, Hall of Fame baseball player. He shared about the hardships faced, growing up in Dominican Republic and how it is now rewarding to be able to give back to underserved communities.
Throughout the afternoon we also heard from families in Nicaragua about the construction of a school for them in Caño de los Martínez. Soon, 77 happy boys and girls will start their 2021 academic year in a new safe and spacious building. No more bats living on the roof of the old school, no more wind and cold. Thank you to the donors of the Acronis Global Cyber Summit Charity Event 2019 for your generous contributions!
The students from our schools in Nicaragua, Nepal, Peru and South Africa shared their aspirations for the future, from dreaming of becoming a doctor to a computer scientist. All these children face a variety of obstacles on their way to their dreams: child labor and marriages, gender discrimination, non-inclusive environments and a lack of educational infrastructure and teachers.
An incredible impact
Attendees were given the chance to take part in the silent auction throughout the event. An incredible number of bids were placed on over 100 items, with support from 79 bidders!
All in all, we’re thrilled to announce USD 30,785 was raised! This money will help fund the digitalization of Acronis schools worldwide.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for the Charity Event!
