Hope and Humanity – Ivan ensures a future for refugees

As Ukrainians struggle to flee from the conflict, it’s important for everyone globally to contribute to various humanitarian efforts to make these transitions as easy as possible for the people of Ukraine. When the world seems darkest, there are always those whose compassionate actions light a path to happiness and prosperity.

These are the stories of some of those shining lights, and what they do to make these hard times easier for those most affected.

Ivan Popov – Project Manager with Acronis in Bulgaria

Many people have taken on the very important task of helping Ukrainians relocate and flee the country, but the journey for refugees is far from over. Ukrainian citizens face a lot of additional hardships, such as finding housing and jobs.

Ivan, located in Bulgaria, saw an opportunity to help by creating and maintaining an extensive database dedicated to assisting Ukrainians in Bulgaria obtain jobs and thus a sustainable income. With this database, Ivan set up a simple system designed for companies to submit job details. An estimated several hundred refugees have already found jobs in the past month.

Ivan also works with Мати Україна (Mother Ukraine), a non-governmental organization (NGO) helping those displaced with transportation, housing, jobs, legal advice, and whatever else they may need for their transition. This organization runs the largest Facebook group for Ukrainian refugees in Bulgaria, an especially impressive feat in a world critically reliant on social media.

Ivan’s humanitarian efforts continue with his collaboration with BG4UA, a Bulgarian-run group of entrepreneurs and tech community members volunteering their time and efforts to assist Ukrainians in relocating.
