On March 31, 2025, Acronis proudly participated in the third session of Romania’s national campaign, “CYBER SECURITY. Introduction for Seniors,” held in Brăila. This powerful initiative is dedicated to educating senior citizens on cybersecurity, helping prevent online fraud and guiding them to stay safe in an increasingly digital world.

Following two successful sessions in Bucharest and Ilfov, which gathered over 250 senior participants, Brăila became the third city to host this program. The event brought together 120 seniors, eager to learn how to recognize cyber threats and protect their personal data. The next session is already scheduled to take place in Brașov.

The campaign is initiated by the Romanian National Institute for Active Aging, in partnership with ICI Bucharest, and supported by sponsors including Acronis, UniCredit Bank, CEC Bank, and Garanti BBVA.
At the Brăila session, industry experts, including Acronis representatives, discussed common online threats such as phishing, data breaches, and social engineering. The content was tailored for seniors, many of whom actively use the internet for communication, online banking, and shopping—activities that expose them to increased cyber risks.
“Modern technologies bring many benefits for everyone—young or old,” said Cristian Rebegea, Director at CEC Bank. “But they also come with risks that can be overcome through training and education. We must support our seniors by offering them the knowledge to navigate online safely.”
The campaign emphasizes that while seniors often use technology with ease, they remain a prime target for cybercriminals. “Our seniors are comfortable with social networks, email, and online shopping. But they’ve also encountered the pitfalls of modern technology and have unfortunately been victims of cyberattacks,” said Alexandra Dobre, Director of the Romanian National Institute for Active Aging. “The goal of phishing attempts is often to access banking details, social media accounts, or personal emails. To avoid becoming easy targets, seniors must learn to recognize the signs of online attacks and understand the basic threats.”
Acronis is honored to be part of this campaign and to contribute through its Cyber Foundation Program, which is dedicated to creating, spreading, and protecting knowledge worldwide. Our volunteers support these sessions by sharing practical tips, real-world examples, and simple steps to stay secure in the digital space.
We believe that cyber protection is a right for all ages, and by helping educate one of the most vulnerable groups—our senior citizens—we strengthen the safety of our digital communities as a whole.
As the campaign continues across Romania, Acronis remains committed to supporting future sessions in Brașov and beyond.
Acronis Cyber Foundation Program welcomes individuals, groups, and companies to partner with us to work side-by-side with underserved communities to bring them hope through education.
