Learning continues in the Dominican Republic

The first school camp took place at the end of 2020 for the children of our educational center in Los Maranitos, Dominican Republic with our partner RNT Rausch GmbH.

The Mariposa Foundation organized a two-week camp during Christmas 2020 for fourteen girls aged between seven and twelve. They played, they painted, they learned together with Denice and Erika; two young trainee teachers from the community. The camp was also an opportunity for the trainee teachers to familiarize themselves with their new roles.

The school construction is progressing despite the global COVID-19 pandemic but with additional safety measures. The building foundation is in place, the roofs are installed as well as the toilets. There is even a small stage now, and the community is ablaze with excitement!

The unfinished school, for now, will be opened for a few days monthly to offer an “open school centre” for the children from neighboring communities too. Having a safe space allows the children to develop healthy relationships with their mentors and others in the community, and feel empowered to make a difference in their lives. They are able to spend quality time with their peers and have a safe space to learn new things.
