In today’s digital age, the internet is an essential part of our lives, offering endless opportunities and knowledge. However, with these benefits come significant risks, especially for young, impressionable minds. To address this concern, the Acronis team in Romania took a proactive step in October and November by sharing their expertise in cyber security with school children. This initiative not only equips the younger generation with essential online safety skills but also empowers them to navigate the digital world responsibly.
Partnering with the Alexandru Odobescu school in Chiajna, Acronis volunteers undertook a mission to educate students from grades 3 to 7 about cybersecurity, ensuring comprehensive outreach across different age groups. Fourteen interactive classes were conducted, covering a wide array of topics aimed at fostering a safe online environment. The positive response received by the volunteers inspired them to consider extending their classes to other schools in 2024.
The curriculum designed by Acronis Cyber Foundation Program encompasses all aspects of safe internet surfing. Children were taught how to discern trusted sources of information, create robust passwords, safeguard personal data, understand digital footprints, recognize cyberbullying, and identify online threats such as malware and phishing. Additionally, the program delved into the nuances of combating the spread of fake news, understanding big data, and respecting copyright laws.
One of the highlights of these classes was their interactivity. The specially crafted materials catered to specific age groups, ensuring that the content was engaging and age-appropriate. The classes encouraged critical thinking and active participation among the students, creating an environment where questions were welcomed, and discussions flourished. To further enhance interactivity, video explanations on challenging topics were provided, courtesy of Acronis’ partner, certSIGN.
Acronis Cyber Foundation Program extends heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated volunteers and the school administration for their enthusiasm and commitment to keeping the younger generation safe online. Their efforts not only enrich the lives of these children but also contribute significantly to building a safer digital community.
For those inspired to contribute to their local communities in a similar manner, Acronis Cyber Foundation Program offers its educational materials, complete with educator instructions and valuable resources, entirely free of charge. By accessing these resources, individuals can initiate similar educational projects, ensuring that the vital message of cyber security reaches as many young minds as possible. Together, let’s create a safer digital world for our future leaders.
