In Mbakalo ward, Kenya, Friends Secondary School Kibisi is taking a big step forward. With 1,200 students and limited infrastructure, the school has long needed better learning facilities. Funded by Acronis and its partners Gridheart, Almom, Blox IT, Complete Solutions, Desknet, Intime IT, IT-verket, Nitma, Thalamus, Torntec, Sölvesborgs Data, construction is now underway on a new multi-purpose resource center that will include a meeting hall, computer lab, and library.

In April, the groundbreaking ceremony marked the official start of the project. Since then, significant progress has been made: the building’s foundations have been laid, materials have been delivered to the site, and wall construction is now underway.
The project has sparked strong community involvement. Through parents’ meetings and local gatherings, the community has been actively engaged offering ideas, support, and hands-on help. During the school’s annual general meeting, many parents pledged not only to donate materials and volunteer their time but also to help maintain the facility once it’s complete. Some have even taken on the role of supporting workers by providing meals. Importantly, most construction materials are being sourced locally, helping to boost the local economy.

Once completed, the center will do more than meet the needs of the secondary school. It will also be available to Kibisi Primary School, which shares a border with the secondary school giving even more students access to a better learning environment.
We’re truly excited about the progress so far and grateful for the continued involvement from the community and supporters. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year, and we’ll be sharing more updates as the work continues. Thank you to everyone who’s playing a part — your efforts are helping build a brighter future for the students of Kibisi!
